Global capability center in Bangladesh: build, operate, transfer

Nexus Payroll builds and operates your Bangladesh capability center under our entity, then transfers it to your own subsidiary from 18 months — office, team, processes and compliance history intact.

What is a global capability center in Bangladesh?

A global capability center (GCC) in Bangladesh is a company-owned operation performing engineering, finance, support or data functions for the parent group from Dhaka. Under a build-operate-transfer model, a local provider recruits the team, leases the office and runs HR, payroll and compliance under its own entity, then transfers the operation to the client's subsidiary once stable.

The model exists because the first eighteen months of a captive center are the riskiest: incorporation, leasing, hiring a centre head and building HR and finance processes all happen at once, in a jurisdiction the parent does not yet know. Nexus Payroll absorbs that phase. The centre operates from day one on our Employer of Record and ODC infrastructure, while our entity-setup advisory incorporates your subsidiary in the background, so the transfer is a change of employer name, not a rebuild.

How does the build-operate-transfer model work?

Build (months 0–4): centre design, office lease, centre-head and first-wave recruitment, IT and security set-up. Operate (months 4–18): Nexus employs and runs the team, reports monthly, and incorporates your subsidiary. Transfer (from month 18): employees, lease, assets and processes move to your entity with continuity of service; Nexus stays on as payroll and HR provider if you wish.

  1. Build

Operating model and org design; office selection and fit-out in Gulshan, Banani or Tejgaon; centre-head search; hiring of the first 10–25 seats; IT, security and process baselines aligned to group standards.

  2. Operate

Nexus employs the team, runs payroll, HR, benefits and compliance, manages the office and reports monthly against agreed KPIs. In parallel we incorporate your subsidiary, register with BIDA and open bank accounts.

  3. Transfer

Tripartite transfer of employment contracts with continuity of service, assignment of lease and assets, handover of HR records, Provident Fund and tax history; optional continuing payroll and HR outsourcing.

How much does a global capability center cost to set up in Bangladesh?

Nexus Payroll charges a set-up fee of USD 9,500 for centre design, office sourcing and centre-head recruitment, then the ODC seat fee of USD 690 per seat per month during the operate phase; salaries, lease and fit-out are billed at cost. Transfer carries no exit fee. Centres are planned at 25 seats or more.

Global capability center FAQ

What happens at the transfer stage?

From 18 months, or earlier by agreement, the team, office lease, assets and processes move to your Bangladesh subsidiary, which our entity-setup advisory will have incorporated during the operate phase. Employees transfer with continuity of service; Provident Fund balances move to your fund or stay with ours by arrangement; Nexus can continue as your payroll and HR provider.

Does a GCC need BIDA registration?

Not during the build and operate phases, because Nexus Payroll Limited is the employer and lessee; BIDA registration is needed when your own entity takes over, because that is foreign investment. We prepare the BIDA file during the operate phase so the transfer is not delayed, and the same registration later supports work permits for any expatriate leadership.

Which functions do companies put in a Bangladesh GCC?

Software engineering and QA lead, followed by finance and accounting shared services, customer support, data operations and AI annotation, and back-office HR administration. Bangladesh's cost base, English-speaking graduate pool and GMT+6 overlap with both Europe and Asia-Pacific make it a credible second or third site alongside India or the Philippines.
